The Australian news media have been speculating about it since 2011. But now it’s official, Oprah Winfrey is returning to Australian TV.
Coming soon, programming from the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) will air in Australia exclusively on the pay TV channel Discovery Home & Health.
The launch line-up will include four programs: Super Soul Sunday; Oprah’s Next Chapter; The Oprah Winfrey Show: Behind the Scenes; and America with Lisa Ling.
According to the press release, Super Soul Sunday is designed to help viewers awaken to their best selves and discover a deeper connection to the world around them. Oprah Winfrey presents programs that nourish your mind, body and spirit and which offer new, fresh and thoughtful insights into living your best life. Exploring themes and issues that include spirituality, the afterlife, alternative health, happiness and personal fulfillment, conscious living and more. The program will air in Australia on Discovery Home & Health every Sunday morning at 11.30am.
In Oprah’s Next Chapter viewers join Oprah for in-depth, one-on-one interviews with some of today’s biggest news-makers and celebrities including: Beyoncé, David Letterman, Drew Barrymore, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson and Kelsey Grammer.
The show hasn’t been in production for almost three years. But Oprah and her loyal fan-base aren’t ready to say goodbye. The Oprah Winfrey Show: Behind the Scenes shows some of the biggest celebrities preparing to be guests on one of the most popular shows of all time. In addition, viewers follow the production team for The Oprah Winfrey Show as they reveal exactly what it took to make the show work.
After a short run on the National Geographic Channel, America with Lisa Ling will move to Discovery Home & Health as part of the OWN line-up. From modern-day polygamy, to child sex trafficking, amateur porn and soldiers returning from battle, America with Lisa Ling takes viewers along for an in-depth look at some of the most controversial and thought-provoking issues in the U.S. today. Look-out for the episode on the now defunct Exodus International which claims to be able to cure homosexuality.
No word yet on the official launch date. But ads featuring Oprah Winfrey have begun appearing on pay TV, announcing her imminent arrival on the Discovery Home & Health channel, broadcast on Foxtel, Austar and Optus.
