The Business Blossom: Tips For Turning Your Workspace From Bleak to Blooming

After running my small secretarial business from a tiny office space for a number of years, I happened to have a quite distinguished visitor walk through my doors unannounced recently. It was then I looked at my workspace with fresh eyes and didn’t like what I saw. Cluttered desks, mismatched furniture and just a general faded and dated aura pervaded my workspace.

I doubt I have ever felt so ashamed. Whilst being busy with making my business flourish, I had permitted the face of my company – the essence of what I represented – to lose its bloom and wilt.

The process from bleak to blooming was surprisingly painless and quite cathartic, in that my transformed office brought a renewed energy to me and raised me to a new level of productivity. Allow me to share with you how I managed this on a modest budget and with minimal downtime.

SOS to the Experts

Not being sure where to turn for help, I decided to call in the experts.

What a difference! They had the resources, creativity and plans that I needed to transform even my lost cause of an office into something I truly love spending time in. Acacia Office Fitouts were recommended to me by a friend and they were a life-saver. I heartily recommend at least speaking to a fit-out company to get some ideas. You will be surprised at the myriad of design options and storage ideas that they can offer.

Lights, Glass, Action

Nobody ever walked into a cluttered, dark, poorly lighted office and had their productivity and output increase. By simply removing old fashioned partitioning and, if it was performing a function, replacing it with glass panels or even half glass panelling, can dramatically increase the feeling of light and space and allow interaction between staff members.

If you currently have fluorescent lighting and you are in a position to change them, please do so. Modern office lighting has changed dramatically in recent years, and is even more game changing than home lighting due to the contrast between the sterile office environment and the beauty and design of the shades. Investigate the selection of stunning option out there, you are sure to fall in love.

Walls and Floors

Make a quick, simple and cheap impact with the use of paint, colour and refurbished flooring. Faster still, is to paint over existing paint with the same colour. White over white for example can give the effect of a spring clean and, can be much simpler to undertake as it’s much more forgiving if there are any mistakes.

Depending on what your current flooring consists of and what lies beneath it, your options are endless. As long as its hard wearing, it doesn’t need to be traditional and quality wood veneer is one option to give a luxurious, modern and yet functional look to any room.

Reception

If your budget only extends as far as one area of your business, spend the bulk of it in the reception area. As the face of your company, the first and most lasting impression will be when your clients and guests first step foot through your doors. By the use of glass, colour, artwork and some contemporary furniture, a complete transformation can be accomplished in a matter of hours!

Flowers

Since we are on the subject of blooming, bringing a bit of nature into an office environment can act as a sweet-smelling, vibrant focus and give your rooms an energy and life, impossible to create with plastic imitations. There are a number of companies who will put together bespoke creations of corporate flower arrangements and plants as well as maintain and renew them.

These are just a few simple ways to transform your workspace into a place you love to inhabit. Since you spend so many of your waking hours there, doesn’t it make sense to make it a place where you and your staff feel productive and enjoy spending time? Start making changes today and you will feel the benefits in no time.
