For the uninitiated, hidden object games require the player to rummage around in messy rooms and outdoor scenes looking for a list of objects, some of which you will need to collect to use in later scenes. These games are very popular with women – probably because we’re always looking for items lost by our partner and the kids!
Listed in no particular order, these five game titles by game developer Legacy Interactive will put you in the hot seat as your in-game characters search for clues to solve a mystery!
Murder, She Wrote
This classic TV series starring Angela Lansbury as the mystery writer/amateur detective Jessica Fletcher, originally ran on TV from 1984 to 1996, making it one of the most successful and longest-running TV series of all time. Eighteen years after ceasing production, the series continues to be popular with TV audiences around the world through re-runs of the original series.
The hidden object game based on the popular TV series Murder, She Wrote for PC was released by Legacy Interactive on 14th November 2009 and for Apple Mac on 15 March 2010. Upon it’s release, the game became an instant hit with casual gamers, most of whom are women. The success of the first hidden object game was followed up with the release of Murder, She Wrote 2: Return to Cabot Cove for PC on 22 November 2010 and for Mac on 17 February 2013.
Now in it’s 7th season, this American crime drama starring Nathan Fillion as best-selling crime novelist Richard Castle and Stana Katic as snarky NYPD homicide detective Kate Beckitt, has been running since 2009. Legacy Games released the hidden object game Castle: Never Judge a Book by Its Cover for both PC and Mac on 5 May 2013.
Now in it’s 10th season, Criminal Minds is a popular American police-procedural drama which follows a team of criminal profilers from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit based in Quantico, Virginia. The team travels across the United States in a private jet, helping local authorities to track down the country’s worst serial killers. On 22 April 2012 Legacy Interactive released the hidden object game Criminal Minds for PC followed by the Apple Mac version on 22 August 2012.
This paranormal reality television series followed the Pennsylvania State University Paranormal Research Society as they investigated a series of hauntings. The series ran on cable TV from 2007 to 2011 and while I’ve never watched the TV program, I did enjoy playing the hidden object game Paranormal State: Poison Spring for PC, which was released by Legacy Interactive on 30 October 2013. The Apple Mac version of the game was released on 16 January 2014.
Running for 5 seasons from 2005 to 2010, this fictional drama follows Melinda Gordon (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt) as she helps a series of earth-bound spirits to find peace in the afterlife. The hidden object game Ghost Whisperer for PC was released by Legacy Interactive on 9 July 2012 and features characters and themes from the show. The Mac version of the game was released on 8 November 2012.
