Knitters set world record in Sydney

15 June 2009 by Australian Women Online

Today New Idea magazine set a Guinness World Record as 256 men and women knitted simultaneously at Martin Place in Sydney this morning.

“It was fantastic to see Australians of all ages, from teens to grandparents, join together to have some fun, create history and raise much needed funds for breast cancer and the Prince of Wales Hospital,” said Amy Hetherington, deputy editor, New Idea.

Participants travelled far and wide to be part of today’s history creating moment, including readers from across Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Broken Hill, Orange and Gosford.

New Idea is collecting the knitted items from today’s event, along with items that have been sent in from around the country, to donate to The Prince of Wales Hospital, along with $5,000 from the New Idea Breast Cancer Fund.

Every reader who participated in today’s Guinness World Record received a complimentary goodie bag, including wool and needles from New Idea and Spotlight, valued at more than $40.
