Travelling the world is an ambition for a lot of women, but how many of us get to know our own country first? For many Australians, exploring Australia is a must before going further. The country is huge and offers lots of places to explore and things to do. And travelling Australia doesn’t have to be expensive if you’re trying to stick to a budget. It’s easy to avoid overspending if you know how to find the best deals and spend your money on what matters most. If you want to set off on a great Australian adventure, here’s how to do it without breaking the bank.

Decide on Transport

You have a number of options when it comes to choosing transport for your trip. You can fly, drive, take a train or even hop onto a cruise ship. Which one you choose will depend on how far you’re going, where you want to go and how much you wish to spend. For long distances, flying is often much cheaper than taking a train or driving. In fact, trains can be expensive for long journeys, even if they do offer spectacular views. Cruises can be surprisingly cheap, especially if you want to stop off at a few destinations. Driving is a cheap way to enjoy both the journey and the destination. And don’t forget about public transport once you arrive.

Look for Affordable Accommodation

Of course, you’ll need somewhere to crash, no matter where you’re going. There are lots of options to choose from, whether you want to live a backpacker lifestyle or be more comfortable. Hostels, farm stays and campsites are all great value options if you want to save as much as possible. If you want a quieter and more comfortable experience, a budget hotel will give you somewhere clean and safe to stay. Plenty of them will have great facilities, from bars and restaurants to gyms. There’s also the option of an apartment or house, which is a great idea if there’s a big group of you.

Save on Food

You can spend a lot on food if you’re not careful. Eating in restaurants for every meal will drain your funds quickly. Using other options will help you to save, such as looking for cheaper cafés and eateries to grab a quick bite. If you’re staying in a hostel with kitchen facilities or self-catered accommodation, you can cook for yourself. Going grocery shopping and making your own meals will save you a lot of cash.

Finding Free Things to Do

The best way to save money is not to spend any at all. You can find free things to do wherever you go. It might be attending an event in a city or going for a hike in the wilderness. Be on the lookout for anything you can do for absolutely nothing. When you visit a town or city, check online for a list of upcoming events or permanent activities that you can do for free. You might be there in time for the annual beer festival or a community walk.

You don’t have to spend all your savings to travel the country. Use the tips above and you can do it on a budget.
