SpaCandles can make fabulous additions to any room in your home. If you enjoy having lit candles around, you will know how quickly they can melt away. It can be expensive rebuying candles every few weeks and not everyone can afford this kind of upkeep. Never fear. There are simple things you can do to extend the life of your candles. Read on to save yourself some money and continue burning candles in your home.

Trimming the wick

The majority of candles will come with warnings to trim their wicks before burning. But most people don’t even realise they have to. You should ideally trim your candle’s wick before its first burn and then every time you light it after that, if necessary. If the wick of your candle is too long, it will not burn the wax to its full potential. So rather than getting a nice scent from the melting wax, you will be just burning the wick instead. This can even lead people to believe the scent of the candle is not strong enough and they may discard the product altogether.

To trim the wicks of your candles use a ruler to measure to approximately one-quarter of an inch. Grab a pair of nail scissors or clippers and cut to the correct length. This will allow your candle wax to melt more sufficiently.

Keep in the Freezer

This sounds like an odd technique, but it does work and can make your candles last for twice as long. If you know you are going to be lighting your candles, say for a dinner party then place them into your freezer the day before. Chilling the wax should lengthen the burning time of your candle. In some candles, it can also reduce dripping and encourages the candle to burn more evenly. Freezing can also make it easier to remove wax residues from previous burnings.

Think about the location

The location you place your burning candle can also affect its longevity. Avoid putting them in areas with a draught as this can cause uneven burning, smoke and dripping. Candles can also melt without burning if placed in direct sunlight. This can alter the shape of the wax and you could lose the wick.

Choose quality over quantity

Finding quality candles that have a decent burn can be difficult. You may need to experiment until you find a product that you like. Some candles do come with a guaranteed time span but ask for assistance if you are unsure. There are plenty of online reviews for candles to help you decide. Try websites like Koch for a large range of wholesale candles. They have a great selection of top quality scented and unscented decorative candles, to suit any home. Top quality doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Remember that not all candles are designed to be burned. Some are just for ornamental purposes to accessorise a room.

You should now be able to easily increase the burning life of your candles and save yourself some money too. Now fill your house with beautifully lit candles you know will last.
