crimethrillersRandom House Australia have launched a Crime & Thrillers website for fans of the popular genre, as well as a Facebook page and a brand new edition of the Random Books App – Crime Books App.

In 2013, Random House commissioned a survey which gained insights into the motivations of fans of crime & thriller books. Some of the key findings were that readers were extremely passionate about the genre, and delight in finding others with similar tastes. They also discovered that recommendation is fundamental to discovery and sharing, with readers relying on word-of-mouth to unearth new authors and books. Seeing a need for a genre-specific website, Random House Australia & New Zealand launched Crime & Thrillers at www.randomhouse.com.au/crime

Featuring content from their authors, booksellers and publishers, the Crime & Thrillers website will promote books from Australia and abroad. The website features the publisher’s best-selling authors Lee Child, Ruth Rendell, James Patterson, Kathy Reichs and Jo Nesbo, whilst highlighting lesser known authors, and championing debut authors in the genre. The website also offers a specialised ‘Surprise Me’ function, where the reader is given recommendations based on the sub-genre they want to read.

A Facebook page has been launched. ‘My favourite books are crime & thrillers’, has received over 10,000 likes since March. Combined, the website and Facebook page provide a platform for readers to access global news, read and watch exclusive interviews and videos, discover books and authors, and engage with like-minded readers.

In addition to the Crime & Thrillers website and Facebook page, a specialised edition of the highly popular Random House Books App has recently been made available to download from the iTunes store. Every month, six page-turning local and international crime & thriller titles will be loaded to the Crime Books App, with the first 10% of the book available to read. To date, the original Random House Books App has had over 25,000 downloads since March 2013, with over 75,000 total reads.
