With more people turning to natural alternatives, Janese Botham and her husband Larry have launched a range of non-toxic, plant-based cleaning products that are as effective as traditional household cleaners, but are safe for humans and the environment.
In fact the Safe Care range is so safe, they are actually drinkable (although we wouldn’t recommend it), making Safe Care Clean the ideal household cleaner to use around young children.
Janese Botham from Safe Care Clean says a lot of cleaning products on the market have not been subjected to any significant research into the long term effects of these cleaning agents on humans and the environment.
In addition to harsh chemical agents, the more traditional cleaning products available on the market use thickeners, preservatives, stabilizers and colours. Some of these cleaning products are highly toxic, but in the absence of an effective alternative, consumers have continued to use them in the home year after year.
Janese Botham told Australian Women Online, “We started with absorbents for major spills and then we started receiving a lot of requests from schools wanting a smaller quantity of absorbent for mopping up spills in the classroom environment.”
“We were also working with the NSW Ambulance and although the absorbents picked up most of the spill, they were worried about the little bit that was left behind. Then someone suggested we develop a safe cleaning product for everyday use and so we started doing the research.”
“We were told about a couple of products but when we did the research we discovered that these products were not actually as safe as people might think.”
Benefiting from powerful micelle technology, hyperactive submolecular particles churn up soil
neutralising odours and gently lifts stains or spills from all surfaces. Safe Care Clean does not react with stains, spills or the surface allowing the product to be used on any surface including wood, upholstery and delicate LCD monitors.
Initially, Janese and Larry had tried to introduce the Safe Care concept into aged care. “But nobody cares about the elderly – it’s cents per head and that’s the bottom line. So we decided to try the day care centres,” said Janese.
With the responsibility of caring for young children, day care centres were using soap and water and a lot of elbow grease in an attempt to keep the environment not only clean, but safe for the children in their care.
Janese says the timing was just right for a product like Safe Care Clean. “A lot of the younger people working in the council are more environmentally aware and were instrumental in getting our products into their day care centres.”
“A lot of the girls who trialed the product in the day care centres actually brought the product themselves to take home and that is the proof in the pudding to me.”
