Beautiful make-up collageFrom extra long lashes to the perfect lip colour, make up is often that little something that finishes off every outfit and leaves you feeling confident, beautiful and ready to take on whatever the world throws at you.

However like with anything, to achieve your perfect look, there are a few secrets that every girl must know.

1. Natural Foundation
Do you hate having a cakey and unnatural looking complexion after applying your foundation and blush? This unflattering look can be caused by foundation being applied too thickly and is a common mistake we all make, particularly when trying to create an evening look.

To avoid this appearance and instead achieve fresh, flawless looking skin, apply your foundation all over your face, then using a tissue gently wipe some off your cheeks before applying your blush as normal. This helps to layer on your blush without your make up looking too thick and unnatural.

When it comes to foundation, sometimes less is more. You’ll never achieve a natural look by heavily applying make up. You can always add more foundation or concealer to your look, so start by applying it lightly and gradually build on your colour until you achieve your desired level of coverage.

2. Always Brighten your Cheeks
It’s like the pen license of make up – every make up user should understand the importance of blush! Blush is indispensable to a fresh and bright looking face. Try a peachy pink or a rosy hue on the apple of your cheeks, not too much; just a dash and you’ll have the perfect playful flush.

Always remember, one blush shade does not fit all. One of the biggest no no’s when applying blush is choosing a colour that is too dark for your skin tone. Just like your foundation, be sure to get your colour checked by a make up professional. It is important to remember your blush isn’t a focal piece of your make up; it should be a subtle light glow on your cheeks that enhances your look without overpowering it.

3. Choose Lips or Eyes
Play up your eyes or your lips… never both!

If you are opting for a dark elaborate eye, the best thing to match it with would be a nude, subtle lip; a light shade a clear gloss, or a subtle pink hue. Like wise, if you are going to apply a bright bold lip, you should keep your eye shadow to a complete minimum; use nude colours such as shades of cream and brown, and add a thin layer of mascara.

4. Bold Brows
Eyebrows shape your face and should always receive some attention when applying your makeup. First comb your brows out with a spoolie brush or a clean mascara wand, then using a soft brow pencil, shape the brow using the thinner side of the tip. You can also shape your brows using a henna brows kit from Paris Lash Academy.

5. Luscious Lips
When working with your lips think of them like a blank canvas; they need to be prepared, clean and smooth. If you’re trying a bold lip colour or your lips have been damaged by the wind or sun – here is a home remedy that will leave your lips beautifully soft and smooth.

Start with applying a moisturising lip balm and then with a clean toothbrush gently scrub your lips, being careful not to scrub too vigorously or press too hard. This will leave your lips feeling smooth and ready for application.
