Whether you are preparing a house for sale or giving the family home a bit of a makeover – refreshing a door with just a touch of colour, can create a lasting first impression in the entrance to a home or a room.
The entrance to the home or a room should offer a sneak preview of what’s to come. Personalising a door is the easiest way to reflect the homeowner’s personality without having to renovate the entire interior or exterior.
Incorporating a bold or deep colour achieves a remarkable impact that can enhance or even change the look and feel of a home dramatically.
“Don’t be afraid to be playful with the look of your entrance to create a welcoming pathway into the home,” says Dulux Colour Expert, Andrea Lucena-Orr.
Andrea says blues, especially, are one of the most influential colours for doors at the moment. “From lighter blues, greyish blues to deep, dark blues and even charcoal blues. The power of a blue door is particularly enhanced when combined with natural stone and brick or neutral render colours.”
“Add a new door mat or a colourful or patterned planter to complement and you can completely transform the appearance of your home. However, don’t just stop at the front door, you can have a great deal of fun with interior doors too.”
A bold approach can be continued throughout the home as well. Rather than painting a feature wall, transforming an interior door is a simple way to incorporate colour and make a statement.
Andrea Lucena-Orr says an eye-catching effect can also be easily achieved with patterns and murals but in order to create the most striking impression, it’s crucial to contrast colour.
“When working with a soft beige brick or stone, an easy way to uplift the space and draw the eye to the entrance is to use a contrasting colour, such as a strong hue like Dulux Mondrian Blue or even hot pink, such as Dulux Scarlet Ribbons, as well as deep purples or an almost black such as Dulux Domino.”
“Another option is to make darker things pop by using whites and neutrals such as Dulux Natural White and Dulux Grand Piano, or even by adding a touch of bright red such as Dulux Hot Lips.”
“Neutral colours in the home provide an ideal canvas to add some personality,” Andrea said.
Painting a door is incredibly quick, easy and ideal for a weekend DIY project. Also low-risk and cost effective, doors can be easily updated which allows homeowners to experiment with colour and upgrade the look of their entrance or their interior with seasonal trends or when they feel the need for a change.
“Painting a door is the easiest way to change the look of the home. It’s a quick and satisfying project that can be completed in a day.”
