Tips for Decorating Your Child’s RoomSchool, chores, homework and other activities can make growing up rather stressful. Having a nice bedroom where your child can go back to is therefore all the more important. Below, parents can find some interesting tips on how to decorate their child’s room and give them an environment where they can relax, develop and grow.

Choose a Fun Style

Before you start decorating your child’s room and purchase paints, furniture, curtains and bedsheets, you will need to choose a style for your child’s bedroom. The bedroom of a young girl will look considerably different than the bedroom of a young boy, so take this into account for the theme of the bedroom.

In general, it is a good idea to pick cheerful colours. Unfortunately, this makes the choice for a boy’s bedroom a little more complicated. While some parents choose a dark blue or grey as a main theme colour for their boy’s bedroom, it does make the room seem a little depressing. Instead, it can be a good idea to go with a light blue, light green or a white theme.

How to Make Your Child’s Room Seem Spacious

The bedroom of a child is usually not that spacious, therefore it can be a good idea to use more than one paint colour for your child’s room. For example, you can paint one wall white and another wall pink. Using multiple colours can make a room more spacious and give it more dimension, subsequently making the room a lot nicer for your child.

Themed Curtains

A child’s bedroom should have a lot of character and a certain sense of wonder, so it can be a good idea to step in the world of themed curtains. A good idea for themed curtains are curtains with a Disney theme. There a hundreds of lovable Disney characters available on curtains, for example at one of the Spotlight stores. Most children love Disney characters, so you cannot go wrong with sprucing up the room with Disney themed curtains.

Of course, some young boys may not enjoy the Disney theme and prefer something a little more masculine. If this is the case, then you can still find themed curtains with a more masculine design, for example cars, trucks or even a superhero theme.

Clever Storage Ideas for Kids

One of the common mistakes parents often make when decorating and designing their child’s bedroom is related to storage. Parents often find cute little cabinets that look great, but are not that fantastic where storage capacity is concerned. Most children have a tremendous amount of stuff, so it is advised to look for storage options that offer quite a bit of storage space.

Parents who want to combine functionality with beauty could consider one of the modern cube storage units. The best thing about these units is their affordable price and their ability to store quite a bit of stuff. Be careful though, do not pick a storage unit that is completely open. It is best to choose a cube storage unit with a couple of drawers. Ideally, you could use an 8 cube unit with 4 open cubes and 4 drawers. While the drawers can be used for toys, the open cubes can be used for decorative items such as lamps, alarm clocks, pillows and more. It all depends on your preference and the stuff your child has.

Toys laying around can also be a source of frustration for parents, which is why it is essential to have a toy box in your child’s bedroom. The toy box is the ideal place to store your child’s toys and it is easy to use. Nowadays, toy boxes are available in all shapes and sizes, so you can easily find something that matches the theme you have chosen for your child’s bedroom.

Why Wall Art Matter’s in Your Child’s Room?

Wall art can be a great tool to give the bedroom of your child a little more character. Unfortunately, using too much wall art can make the bedroom of your child appear cluttered, therefore it is best to avoid using too many pictures on the wall.

When selecting wall art for your child’s bedroom, choose a maximum of three wall art pieces. In order to ensure your child will enjoy the wall art, it is best to involve them in this choice. Before you put the choice up for debate, pick wall art that matches the design of your child’s room and let your child choose his favourites after that.

Affordable Decorations Ideas

Redecorating a bedroom can be quite pricy, but there are a couple of stores in Australia that give you great deals on furniture, bedsheets, wall art and other little things you may need to spruce up the bedroom. One of these stores is Spotlight, a store who provides numerous decorating items and furniture at a discounted price. So when you decorate your child’s room, be sure to compare prices and look for a store that matches your budget.
