5 Tips for Embracing Imperfections & Thriving in Your True WorthIn the age of social media, there’s certainly a lot of pressure out there to be perfect – particularly for women. You have to be the perfect partner, the perfect mother, the perfect daughter, the perfect professional and even the perfect friend. But the reality is that we don’t live in a perfect world. We all have unique “imperfections” that make us who we are.

At the end of the day, there is no fountain of youth or a completely idyllic life and certainly no unblemished, perfect bodies. Somewhere along the way, we can lose sight of what’s healthy and what truly makes us happy and confident. However, you have a right to be accepted and loved – especially by yourself! So, here are our 5 tips for embracing your “flaws” and thriving in your own unique, true worth:

1. Take A Moment To Forgive Yourself

The first step to tapping into your true potential is to confront the darker parts of yourself and your past. These are the moments or memories that you need to come to terms with and forgive yourself for. It can be really difficult to wrestle with these demons, but you need to work towards accepting the fact that sometimes good people, just like you, make bad choices. It’s natural and universal, we’ve all made mistakes that we regret. It’s time to let this guilt go and to start focussing on the now. This is the first step to building the tomorrow that you deserve.

2. Take Time To Fall In Love With Yourself

Put aside a few minutes every day to nurture yourself with affirmations. It’s important to learn how to be gentle and kind to yourself, despite what you perceive to be “flaws”. Spend time looking in the mirror and fall in love with the reflection that is YOU. Appreciate the aesthetic that is that bump on your nose or that birthmark on your arm or any other “imperfection” you find yourself drawn to. You are born to be real, not perfect!

3. Take Control of That Voice In Your Head

We are often our biggest critics when we should be our biggest fans instead. Have you noticed that little voice in your head that berates you over the tiniest things? It’s important that you monitor this dialogue with yourself and catch any negativity that can bring you down. When you start to think kindly about yourself, you’ll naturally start to feel empowered too. Not to mention that you can’t expect the rest of the world to see you in your best light if you intrinsically don’t believe it first yourself.

4. Take Note Of Who Is Around You

It’s really important that you take a step back and take a long, hard look at the people you surround yourself with. Are these people reinforcing negative aspects of your life? Then it’s time to prioritise your time, particularly to spend it with those who uplift you instead. This will also lead to surrounding yourself with people who echo your internal voice of compassion and will support you no matter what. These are your true friends and will help you feel fulfilled on a daily basis. They will also give you that little confidence boost when you’re feeling down on yourself.

5. Take Action To Achieve Your Dreams

Everyone deserves to love the life they’re leading. The easiest way to achieve this is to plot a roadmap to your dreams. If you’ve always wanted more self-confidence, but aren’t happy with your weight, start a schedule of daily eating and exercise that you can follow. If you’ve always wanted to become a model but are worried your “look” isn’t mainstream enough, talk to agencies until you find representation who understands how to market you. If you’ve always dreamed of pursuing a challenging career path but weren’t sure if you were smart enough, enrol in courses or start self-educating online. Almost anything is achievable when you have a plan!

At the end of the day, people will come and go. Events will come and go. Day and night will come and go. But a true love for yourself will always remain with you, especially if you nurture it every single day. If you’re still unconvinced that you’re a worthy person, keep the faith and keep working at it! It will take some practice but prioritising self-love and compassion is always rewarding in the long-run. After all, you deserve to find happiness within yourself and in the world around you. Embrace your “imperfections” and the confidence will follow!

Which of these points are you struggling with? How are you planning on spending more time working on loving yourself unconditionally? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment! Let’s support each other in the journey towards achieving true self-worth.
