Two sisters have launched the biggest innovation in online shopping seen in Australia to date.’WantItNow’ is a 3 Hour & Same Day courier delivery service now offered in partnership with a growing list of online retailers to metropolitan customers in Sydney and Melbourne. The express delivery service costs between $9.95 and $39 – depending on the retailer – and will be rolled out in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra in 2013.

Both Emma Cronin and Fiona Pearse are working mothers who use online retail for many of the same reasons all working parents do. The idea for Want It Now came about when they discovered one Friday afternoon they were without the gift they sorely needed for a wedding the following day. The usual frenzy ensued, complete with dreaded thoughts of an excursion with small children around expensive gift stores, as none of the online retailers they hovered over could deliver anything earlier than 10 days. As the business owners of a courier company, the idea of same day delivery was born.

Can WANT IT NOW Really Deliver in 3 Hours? We Put it to the Test
Excited by the concept of 3 hour delivery I was eager to put it to the test to see for myself whether WantItNow really could deliver in 3 hours. So I headed over to the Want It Now website and from there clicked through to the diva.net.au website and placed an order for a watch and two pairs of sunglasses. At checkout I chose the “Want It Now” delivery option and clicked on the ‘place your order’ button and nothing happened… So I called Diva customer service and spoke to ‘Wes’ who apologised for the problems I was experiencing on the website and after a few minutes of trouble-shooting – accompanied by some friendly chit chat – my order was submitted and the countdown began! About 2 hours into this experiment I began to ponder the possibilities: Will my order arrive on time? Will I be able to report that it arrived early? So I jumped onto the WantItNow website to find out exactly where my order was but alas, the order tracker on the website required a password and I didn’t have one. So I called customer service at Mail Call couriers and another friendly voice told me I should have automatically received a password in an email when I placed my order. The friendly voice apologised (everyone has been so polite during this process) and told me his Supervisor would do a manual resend of the email. After receiving my password by email I logged into the order tracker on the WantItNow website where a clock appeared on the screen with the ‘Estimated Time of Delivery’ in big orange numerals “22 minutes” and the driver would have made it in 22 minutes if he hadn’t gone to the wrong door! However, the Mail Call driver can hardly be blamed for that when everyone gets lost on this street because of the placement of the buildings. But even with this short detour, Driver ID: 292 still managed to deliver my order with a smile and a ‘have a nice day’ with a few minutes to spare!
