Australia's 10 Best Franchises for 2016Mortgage brokers, gutter cleaning experts and a specialist service retailer have topped the list of Australia’s 10 best franchises, as voted by franchisees across the country.

Now in its ninth year, the Topfranchise Awards by SEEK Business and 10 THOUSAND FEET recognises the activities and achievements of Australian Franchisors, and is voted by industry peers. The Topfranchise Awards include an overall winner and six category-specific awards.

For the eighth consecutive year, Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisers has been named Franchise of the Year. Second place was awarded to Gutter-Vac, with Mister Minit, Snooze, Kwik Kopy, Soul Origin, MLC Advice, Anytime Fitness, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses and Mrs. Fields rounding out the top 10 places.

Bedding retailer, Snooze received the Brand Award and bakery café, Mrs. Fields won the Opportunities for Expansion Award. Also rated highly by franchisees: Snap-on Tools, Superdraft, Choice Home Loans, Xpresso Mobile Café and Xpresso Delight.

More than 1,000 Australian franchises nominated Australia’s leading franchises through a survey conducted by 10 THOUSAND FEET and the number one market place for buying a business, SEEK Business. Each franchisee was asked 37 questions covering a range of key areas, with the feedback used to benchmark performance in comparison to other franchise systems. Performance was ranked across marketing, branding, passion and culture, support and operational systems, lifestyle and opportunities for expansion.

Head of Intelligence for topfranchise.com.au and 10 THOUSAND FEET, Ian Krawitz said this year’s research and survey results reveal a direct correlation between the improvements franchisors make in their business and the impact of these improvements on franchisees and the industry as a whole.

“The Top 10 have listened to their franchisees, determined where they can improve and have taken actions to lift satisfaction levels,” said Mr Krawitz.

“These specific actions, whether it be more face-to-face support contact, providing better training on how to market the business locally, harnessing time saving technologies that give franchisees more time to spend with their families have all been off the back of a closed loop approach of caring, surveying, measuring and acting.”

According to a SEEK Business Survey conducted in 2015, 1 in 2 people in Australia are wanting to purchase a business so they can be their own boss and 40% are looking for a better lifestyle.

Franchising is a highly respected business model and is showing growth across Australia, said Head of SEEK Business, Ben Johnston.

“This trend indicates that people are really considering being their own boss, and business/franchise ownership is growing as a career alternative for people in Australia. Throughout Australia there are approximately 79,000 franchises that employ 460,000 people.”
