Rating: ★★★★☆

Take some of the most entertaining storytellers of our time, add more than fifty of their short stories, grab a cuppa and some chocolate, curl up on the couch – and you’re set for a great night in.

This is the tenth anniversary edition of the Girls’ Night In compilations, with some of the most loved stories from the last four editions piled into one. It’s a fat book, full to the brim with laughter, tears and entertainment waiting for you.

The idea for this series began back in 2000, when writers Chris Manby, Jessica Adams and Fiona Walker talked about all the talent hitting the bestseller lists. They came up with an idea to combine some of those authors into one compilation, all in the name of charity.

The books have raised more than $3 million for War Child, helping children who have been affected by war and conflict everywhere from Africa through to Afghanistan.

The list of contributors reads like a dream: Maggie Alderson, Adam Hills, Marian Keyes, Kathy Lette, Matthew Reilly, Rebecca Sparrow, Gretel Killeen, Candace Bushnell, Meg Cabot, Kaz Cooke, and more more more!

Read stories of love, life, heartache, pain, breakups, happiness, adventure, and more. There are traditional stories, stories in bullet point form, tales told from end to beginning, those told through transcribes, mini stories written all in lower case – this is the collection where the rule is there are no rules. Political correctness is broken (the list of authors might help you understand why!), every topic is open for discussion, and the range of characters is intriguing.

Just like life, really. Reading this collection of stories is like chatting to a girlfriend over a glass of wine; a time to laugh, talk about your lives and perhaps have a little cry about the down times.

This book makes not just one great night in, but several comfortable evenings curled up with some great stories.
