Rating: ★★★★☆

You don’t need to be a design lover to crave a beautiful space for your children for sleep and play, and this stunning new book by Susanna Salk certainly provides the inspiration to create something whimsical, functional and memorable.

Room for Children is a drool-fest of children’s rooms – covering three room types – the nursery, the bedroom and work/play rooms. Essentially a showcase of top designers, including Kelly Wearstler, Amanda Nisbet and Charlotte Moss, the lovely thing about this book is that it features rooms across the design spectrum.

The rooms featured cover traditional, modern, whimsical, funky, striking, relaxed and formal. The colour schemes are a virtual rainbow – from brights to classic white – and the ideas pressed firmly between its pages make this book as inspirational as it is beautiful.

Sailing boats as wall art? A bed in the round? A hallway of blackboards? A wall of children’s art? A lounge chair the size of a bed? These inspirational photographs are accompanied by the author’s explanatory text, bringing personal meaning to each entry.

Due to the variety and timelessness of the rooms on offer, this book won’t date easily, making it a tome the whole family can flick through for many years to come. The perfect coffee table book to dip into and be transported by.
