#FaceItTogether campaign to end violence against women and girlsToday, International Women’s Day, UN Women Australia are asking all Australians to join UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman to pledge their support for the #FaceItTogether campaign to end violence against women and girls, by uploading a picture of their face. Each face will be combined to create an ever-evolving, single face supporting UN Women’s work to end the violence.

One of the first petitions of its kind, #FaceItTogether will create a single portrait, composed of the faces of every individual who pledges their support and image. The campaign is designed to raise awareness and funds to support women affected by violence in the Pacific, and to prevent violence before it starts.

2 in 3 women in the Pacific will experience violence in their lifetime. That’s double the rate of violence experienced by women in Australia. In the highlands of Papua New Guinea, as many as 100% of women report experiencing sexual or physical violence.

Your donation will provide: Safe shelter; Legal aid; Prevention and education programs to change attitudes and promote healthy, respectful relationships; Crisis counselling; Vocational training and education; and career pathways to achieve financial independence and escape domestic violence. UN Women also works to change systems, introducing laws to criminalise domestic violence and marital rape, and assisting police and the judiciary to better support survivors of violence.

You can also show your support for International Women’s Day 2016 by wearing a purple ribbon. You can purchase purple ribbons from Esprit stores around Australia.
