Layne BeachleyThe Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars Foundation provides funding for women and girls who need assistance in reaching their goals in their sporting, academic, community or cultural pursuits.

After personally experiencing the financial pressures of supporting the early years of her professional surfing career, Layne Beachley (pictured) decided to establish the foundation in 2003 to give assistance to women to achieve their ambitions.

“Any hard-working female who is committed to pursuing her passion and needs financial support deserves a helping hand and should apply for an Aim for the Stars 2013 grant by the due date,” Layne said.

Since the Foundation’s launch, it has transformed dreams into reality for more than 240 females Australia-wide in a diverse range of areas including opera, ballet, marine science, diving, literacy education, rally driving, BMX, equestrian and hockey.

Past grant recipient and world class BMX cyclist, Caroline Buchanan, who is on her way to compete in London later this month, has praised the foundation.

“The grant money helps me to focus on my goals and not stress about money as a full-time athlete. Layne’s advice and the program’s support have been priceless,” Caroline said.

Layne Beachley says she is proud to draw on her journey as an elite sportswoman to help further the ambitions of grant recipients and ease their financial burden.

“I love inspiring and motivating girls to dare to dream, pursue their passion and aspire to achieve. My desire is to help Aussie girls to focus on achieving their goals and aim for the stars by alleviating those financial pressures which I experienced early in my surfing career,” she said.

Nominations are now open for females aged 12 and above to apply for a financial grant to help them to pursue their passion and achieve their dream.

The Foundation will offer $80,000 worth of grants for 2013. Grants are awarded at the discretion of the Foundation to eligible applicants who best demonstrate their aspirations and need. Applications close 16 November 2012.
