Where to find information about the candidates in your local Council ElectionsDid you know that New South Wales are holding Local Government Elections on the 10th September 2016? Do you know any of the candidates in your local council elections? If you don’t know anything about local government politics in your area, you’re not alone.

While State and Federal elections receive plenty of media coverage in the lead up to election day, local council elections do not. So you could be forgiven for not having a clue what’s going on in your local government. However, since the people elected this September will be making the decisions that most affect our homes and our daily lives, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get to know who the candidates are and what they stand for, before walking into a polling station on 10th September.

To help you decide who to vote for on 10th September 2016, Natalie Bramble and Glen Dunkley have relaunched the Meet the Candidates website, giving voters access to information about each candidate running in local government elections.

All candidates in local government elections receive a free basic listing or upgrade to a paid listing.

The site first debuted in the city of Dubbo, during the 2012 NSW Local Government elections. Tech-savvy former Mayor of Dubbo, Mathew Dickerson, said the site offers “a simple way for the voting public to make an informed decision on who to vote for on election day”.

“The public typically relies on advertising budgets from candidates to have some idea of who they are voting for. What is really needed is one common central site where information on all candidates is available to easily digest and compare. Enter Meet the Candidates which, like many great ideas, seems so simple and obvious after someone else has created it,” Dickerson said.
