Women's health: the taboo topic of vaginal dryness No woman enjoys speaking about the symptoms of vaginal dryness. Yet this issue affects a large number of women – regardless of age. Although menopause is one of the primary causes of vaginal dryness, there are a number of other triggers such as childbirth, breastfeeding, radiation therapy or chemotherapy, immune system problems, hormone treatments with anti-oestrogens, the removal of the ovaries or excessive genital hygiene.

Symptoms of Vaginal Dryness

Women suffering from vaginal dryness can experience the following symptoms: the woman’s genital area is supplied with too little moisture, resulting in a lack of protection that would normally be provided by the vaginal discharge. This leaves the vaginal area more susceptible to pathogens and bacteria. It also becomes more vulnerable to infection. As a result, the vaginal mucosa becomes thinner, which could lead to skin irritation, an unpleasant burning or itching sensation and pain during intercourse.

Treatment for Vaginal Dryness

To treat vaginal dryness, many doctors and pharmacists recommend using personal lubricants, which help to moisturise the vaginal area. One particularly high-quality brand of personal lubricants is pjur med. pjur med lubricants are very kind to the skin and contain natural and nature-identical ingredients. The regular use of personal lubricants can help to gently moisturise and relieve vaginal dryness.

Treatment that Supports the McGrath Foundation

A cancer diagnosis, or rather the treatment of cancer using radiation or chemotherapy, can also lead to vaginal dryness. As fighting the cancer is the first priority for these women, side effects such as vaginal dryness often remain untreated and its symptoms are simply endured.

From October on, the pjur group will support the McGrath Foundation – one of Australia’s most respected charities. McGrath raises money to fund Breast Care Nurses throughout Australia. These nurses support individuals and families affected by breast cancer. The McGrath Foundation has already placed 110 of these Breast Care Nurses throughout Australia, providing advice to women and families affected by cancer – regardless of the region or social background they come from. For every pjur med personal lubricant purchased in Australia, $0.25 will be donated to the organisation.

Silicone-based personal lubricants from pjur med contain silicone molecules, which are larger than the pores of the skin. This means that they remain on the surface of the skin rather than being absorbed. They form a protective film, providing the skin with moisture and leaving it soft and silky smooth. pjur med takes special care to ensure that its silicone-based personal lubricants are free of preservatives and are dermatologically tested. One example is pjur med PREMIUM glide.

Water-based pjur med personal lubricants, such as pjur med SENSITIVE glide, are made exclusively of natural and nature-identical ingredients, allowing pjur med to guarantee the highest level of skin-friendly protection possible. These natural ingredients are suitable for the sensitive mucosa membranes and for daily use.

For additional information on pjur med, its products and this collaborative project, visit the pjur med- website. Products can be purchased via the online shop.
