vitaminsWomen can benefit from taking some vitamin supplements that men don’t really need. To help your body deal with pregnancy, menstruation, stress, and hormonal fluctuations, these five vitamins and supplements need to be taken every day:

1. Iron
A lot of women are lacking in iron. Bleeding during menstruation, daily stress, and poor diets often caused by trying to lose weight can leave women feeling very fatigued because of this lack of iron. When you don’t get enough iron you will notice that you get very pale and will have almost no energy. Taking a good iron supplement each day will help keep your iron levels high.

2. Folic acid
Women need folic acid, especially when pregnant. Even if you’re not pregnant taking Folic Acid can help prevent heart disease, which is the number one disease that women die of every year. Folic acid is usually found in bread so if you’re on a low carb or no carb diet you need to take a Folic Acid supplement.

3. Vitamin K
Vitamin K works with Calcium in the body to keep bones strong and healthy. Since Osteoporosis is a huge problem for women as they get older taking Vitamin K along with Calcium is a good idea.

4. Calcium
Nearly half of all women in develop some form of Osteoporosis as they get older. Taking a good calcium supplement everyday will help keep your bones strong and keep Osteoporosis at bay. You also need to take Vitamin D with Calcium because your body can’t absorb the Calcium without Vitamin D and small amounts of Vitamin K. Drinking milk fortified with Vitamin D is a good way to get the Vitamin D you need.

5. Magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral that most women lack. Magnesium can help protect you from heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and other serious health problems. Some multi vitamins have minimal amounts of Magnesium in them and often that’s not enough to protect women. You should be taking an additional Magnesium supplement every day to make sure that you are getting the right amount of Magnesium every day.

In addition to these particular vitamins and minerals women should be taking a high quality multi vitamin everyday too. A good multi vitamin combined with additional supplements to give you the extra vitamins and minerals that you need that aren’t provided in the multi vitamin will help protect you from disease and keep you healthy and strong.
