Windows. They keep the weather, creepies and creeps out of your house. They protect you from wind and rain. They provide your home with natural lighting, help keep your home cool in summer and warm in winter. For all the goodness they provide, many neglect this important part of their home. Like anything in your house, from time to time your windows may need replacing.

How do you tell if your windows are in need of a spruce up or something new? Check out these classic tell-tale signs that your windows are in need of an update.

Frayed flyscreens

Aren’t frayed flyscreens the most dreadful looking thing? Waving in the breeze, letting in all manner of creepy crawlies. Whilst unsightly, a frayed flyscreen may be indicative of bigger window problems. It may indicate your windows and frames have warped, have sun damage or worse. Frayed or easily removable screens indicate your windows need replacing.

Feel unsafe

Have you worried about the wrong thing, or person, getting in through your window? Unsettling, isn’t it. There’s nothing worse than feeling unsafe in your own home. Do you feel worried when you leave your house, or worse still, in your house because of unsafe windows? Do you feel that anyone could break through the window glass? It’s high time you talk to an expert in protecting your home, such as Stylewise Security and Glass to make sure you, your family and your home are protected.

Draughty

It only takes a small draft that seems to flood a warm room with cold air. A draughty window is a damaged window. Windows are designed to not let draughts in. Sure, you can put newspaper or a rag in the draught, but all you are doing is applying a ‘band-aid’ solution to a fracture in your window. Draughts are a sign your windows are in need of replacing.

Problems opening and closing them

Are your windows getting jammed when opening and closing them? Do you feel you’re putting more pressure on them to open or close? Applying a lubricant or oil will only grease up the frame, mess up your glass and mask the underlying problem. A window that does not glide easily is a window that needs replacing.

Cracked or damaged glass

The Mayor of New York, Rudi Guiliani introduced the ‘Broken Window Policy’ for good reason. A broken window is an opportunity for crime; reduce that opportunistic crime by ensuring your window glass is in sound condition and unbroken. If you find your window glass is brittle, cracked or showing signs of stress, this could be a sign your window frame is unsafe and needs replacing.

A complete, safe and modern window is an asset to any home. Not only does it keep unwanted predators and crawlies out, it protects you and your family from the elements. It costs nothing to browse the internet for ideas on improving the look and safety of your home windows – why not check out some ideas today?
