image010This Christmas you can support the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia (BCIA) by purchasing the Australian Womens Health Diary 2016 for yourself or for someone special and help women like Kellie Shanahan (pictured).

Kellie’s Story

Kellie Shanahan is all too aware of the importance of regular health check-ups. Kellie was a fit, healthy 43 year old when her GP found a lump in her breast whilst conducting a routine health check. The lump turned out to be breast cancer.

“It really is the most unbelievable moment when you hear those words and you are in such a state of shock,” Kellie said.

In the months that followed Kellie endured two operations, six rounds of chemotherapy and 33 sessions of radiation. On top of the treatment, Kellie was trying to keep life relatively normal for her two daughters.

“So much has changed for me since having breast cancer. I used to waste a lot of time fussing over trivial things. I now make decisions based on what is the best for me and I treasure moments with my girls and the little things in life. I wake early most mornings to enjoy the sunrise, yoga and some time for ‘me’.”

Each year Kellie now also buys the Australian Women’s Health Diary as a gift for special family members. “It’s a very personal gift for me to give, and one that has special meaning. I know all the proceeds are going to a very good cause.”

The sale of the Australian Women’s Health Diary raises funds for the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia. Since 1999, the diary has raised over $11.1 million for breast cancer clinical trials research to help identify new treatments and prevention strategies.

“Do not hesitate buying this diary. Everyone needs a diary to remind them of regular breast checks and other important health check dates. And through buying the diary you’re supporting all women at risk of breast cancer,” said Kellie.

The 2016 Australian Women’s Health Diary is on sale now and at $16.95 makes the perfect healthy, feel good gift.

The 2016 Australian Women’s Health Diary available from newsagents, Commonwealth Bank branches, Woolworths and Avon Representatives.

It can also be purchased online at www.bcia.org.au or by calling 1800 423 444.
