Want to lose a few pesky kilos before swimsuit season? Keen to get a bit more definition and show off your muscles? Cardio is an important aspect of fitness that complements strength and weight training – here are the top five ways to start incorporating it into your everyday life!

Jog along

Hitting the pavement can pay dividends when it comes to getting rid of that winter weight and getting you back into shape for summer. If you can pair a good amount of running per week with a healthier diet, you should start seeing results quickly, and hopefully just in time for beach weather.

Gone Walkabout

If running isn’t your thing, then why not go walking instead? You don’t have to dress up in fancy sportswear to partake in walking. You just have to take the first step outside your front door. Get out and about enjoy your walk – you don’t have to take the same route every day. Why not go for a walk along some scenic backdrops? That will make you want to get some exercise, won’t it?

Get on your Bike

Another great way to get into shape for summer is by going bike riding. It can be as simple as riding your bike to and from work, or taking the kids bike riding in your local park one afternoon. It’s amazing just how many calories you can burn and for the most part, you may not even realise just how hard your body is working! Is your bike looking a little worse for wear? Don’t have one? Go and visit the team at 99 Bikes and they will be able to help you sort out your biking problems, as well as provide you with a range of great designs and options.

Swimming is a great way to get your body into shape for summer and will also get you used to the water you will so desperately be looking for on those terribly hot summer days. Not only are you working your arms and legs, but your heart is getting fit too – swimming is fantastic cardio that helps you improve your lung capacity and breathing. If the days are still a little cool, try and find a heated, indoor pool in your area or at a nearby gym.

Take a Gym Class

Do you go to the gym but have never tried a class that it offers? Well why not give one a try, such as a spin class or a boxing class? These are a great way to get a brilliant cardio workout, while in a sociable, yet competitive environment. They will also challenge you, and who knows, you might start going to the gym more often than you used to.

What are some other ways to get the heart pumping and get sweaty? Share your personal fitness tips in the section below.
