Wedding bouquet in hands of the bride and groomSo he popped the question (at long last) and now it’s time to celebrate with an unforgettable engagement party. It’s tradition in many countries that the engagement party is held in the home of the bride’s parents and while this is a suitable option for many couples, others prefer to do something a little more different and creative to celebrate their engagement.

It is an important occasion, after all, and one that should reflect the couple’s unique relationship. It is also a time when close friends and family gather so that they can offer the happy couple their utmost support and encouragement and wish them the best of luck for their future together.

Venues

There is an endless choice of venues for you to choose from, but keep in mind that aspects such as the size of the party and the size of your budget should be taken into consideration before booking. There are tons of choices on Bride Online wedding venues, which has something to offer even the most hard-to-please couple. Some couples may prefer to keep the engagement party more close to home, and why not? Australia is a beautiful country and according to Vogue, one of the most romantic locations for engaged couples and newlyweds is the fascinating Kangaroo Islands situated in South Australia.

Theme

Cocktail parties are the most common type of engagement party but it may be worth considering having a party with a fun theme attached to it. Couples can choose from a never-ending list of possible themes such as Superheroes, Sci-Fi, Hollywood, The 80s or even a Cinderella themed party with gorgeous ball gowns and striking tuxedos filling up the dancefloor. To further enhance this, make sure that the food, music, decor and party favors all reflect the theme to really bring the engagement party to life.

Get Creative

This is your engagement party so don’t be afraid to get creative with it. You could make the event more personal by displaying photographs of the happy couple in a fun collage for all the guests to see or perhaps a range of personalized party favors such as wrapped packets of sweets with personal love notes on them. These are guaranteed to have your guests smiling.

If you and your guests are self-confessed chocoholics, then a generous chocolate fountain may be the perfect centrepiece for the party. If you prefer, you can take Buzz Feed’s advice and “toast yourselves with a champagne tower”. Be careful that you don’t go and knock down one of the glasses though, because the entire tower is likely to come tumbling down along with it.

Games

Sometimes an engagement party can drag a bit. Make sure this doesn’t happen at yours by preparing some fun games (and alcohol) for the guests to enjoy. Guests could each write out some fun marriage tips for the happy couple, put them all in a box and allow the couple to pull out some random tips to read aloud to the group – a sure way to trigger some great laughs. You’re never too old for an old fashioned game of charades or even team-based games such as Pictionary, which is a great choice for an engagement party. The guests will have a laugh and you and your fiancee can relax knowing that everybody is having the time of their lives.
