Women are being encouraged to take up the challenge of driving a bus. Southern Coast Transit is now offering to train people with a car licence to upgrade to a bus licence if they pass a simple test – are you female?

This is a great opportunity for women to learn a new skill and build a career behind the wheel of a bus. The training on offer includes a comprehensive 4 week, full time, training package worth about $3500. On completion of their training, drivers have a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence and are fully conversant with driving and operating buses.

Southern Coast Transit Managing Director Ray Cochrane said there were several positions available for women bus drivers.

“We believe that women have a lot to contribute to the workforce and would like to see more of them take up the challenge of driving a bus. Driving a bus provides women who want to return to the workforce with flexibility and lots of opportunities,” Mr Cochrane said.

Southern Coast Transit is one of Perth’s biggest bus companies and operates in the Fremantle, Rockingham and Mandurah regions to the south of Perth. It also operates the popular free CAT services in the Perth and Fremantle central business district.
