Christmas in the office. On the sixth day of business the business.gov.au website gave to me, tips if my business has a party during seasonal festivities.

As the end of the year approaches, many businesses have parties to celebrate the festive season and show appreciation for their staff.

When planning a work party, you should consider your tax implications and ways to minimise your obligations which may benefit your business when submitting your taxes.

As work parties can attract fringe benefits tax (FBT), you should consider:

  • the benefits of hosting the party at your business premises
  • the value of any gifts you choose to give to staff
  • whether to invite clients and other associates
  • the cost of catering per person.

Visit the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) External link website to find out if your work party will attract FBT.

Visit our Taxation topic for more information on taxation obligations for your business.

Stay tuned for more ‘business treats’ in our 12 days of business countdown! We’ll be publishing a new treat each day on the website until Christmas.

We’re also publishing fun images on our Facebook External link and Twitter External link pages, take a look and share them with your friends.
