Going to primary school is a challenging time for your little one and yourself. While the new school year is some way off, it can be very overwhelming, so it’s a good idea to start preparing your child now for starting Primary School.

Start doing numeracy and literacy at home

It’s not going to be all fun and play when they start primary school, so it’s a good idea to start doing numeracy and literacy at home. You want to give them the best start possible so that they can understand what they are doing once school starts. Sit down with them and start counting together every day. And make sure you read at nighttime, and instead of you reading it all out, why don’t you say the words, and get them to say it back. It will prepare them for the work at school, and they will be able to contribute in class. Try and make it as fun as possible when you’re at home, so that they get involved and don’t get bored.

Take your child to look around

Make sure you look at different schools before you make a decision on which one to send your child to. You can ask to look around them and research the ones in your area before you Join the premier primary school in Perth today. Once you have made a decision, the best way you can prepare your child is to take them to have a look around. It’s a great way to get your child used to the environment and meet their new teacher. They will go and play with the other kids and might even sit and play. It will help them feel less scared on their first day!

Arrange for more playdates

Your kid will have to be more social when they start their new school. They will meet loads of different children, and it can be overwhelming. To prepare them for communicating with others, you should arrange for them to go on more playdates. It will give them a chance to practice talking to other children and spending a lot of time around them. You can also meet with other parents whose kids are going to be in the same year as yours. They can get to know each other and make friends before starting school.

Spend time apart from child

It can often be upsetting for your child when you leave them at the primary school on their own. To prepare them for spending time away from you, you should make sure you spend time apart from them on a regular basis. Go on dates with your partner, and leave them with a babysitter or a family member. It will help them get used to the fact you won’t be around at school, and they will hopefully cope well.

Be honest with your kid

Honesty is the best policy so it’s time to sit your child down and explain to them that they will be starting school. Some kids are excited about going to school while others may get upset and say they don’t want to go. Try and explain to them what they will be doing there, and how they will come home at the end of the day.

Remember all children are different so treat the situation sensitively.
