7 Tips to Protect Your Hair from DamageWhen your hair is damaged, every day can be a bad hair day. Damage causes your hair to be frizzy and it also causes breakage. If you want your hair to be healthy, and free of breakage and frizz, there are a few things that you can do.

# 1 Use Less Heat

Daily use of heated styling tools, such as a blow dryer, curling iron, and a flat iron can do serious damage to your hair. If you have the time, let your hair air dry. Rather than straightening or curling your hair every day, put it in a ponytail or a bun once in a while to give it a break. If you must use heated styling tools, you should buy protective creams and sprays before use.

#2 Wash Your Hair Less

Most people believe that they need to wash their hair daily to keep it healthy. This is not true. Daily washing will take the natural oils out of your hair, which makes it dry out quickly. This can lead to breakage. Washing once or twice a week is more than enough.

#3 Comb Your Hair, Don’t Brush

After you get out of the shower, you should never brush your hair. It is very susceptible to breakage when it is wet. The safest way to get tangles out after your shower is to use a wide tooth comb. If you have very stubborn tangles, use your fingers to remove the tangle before combing your hair out. Once it is smooth and tangle free, you can use a brush.

#4 Never Towel Dry

When many people get out of the shower, they will towel dry their hair vigorously to keep it from dripping. This is a mistake. Vigorous towel drying will break the hair off at the ends. It is best to wrap your hair gently in the towel and leave it on until the towel has had a chance to absorb the water. If you don’t have the time to wait, you should gently squeeze or blot the excess moisture.

#5 Get a New Pillowcase

When your head is lying on your pillow, you are putting 9 pounds of pressure on it. When you toss and turn, it can result in serious hair breakage. If you want to minimize the amount of breakage, switch to a satin or silk pillowcase. These materials will allow your hair to slide on the pillowcase rather than breaking it. Also, a satin or silk pillowcase won’t absorb your hair’s natural oils the way that a cotton or flannel one will.

#6 Hire a Professional

If you are planning a special event where your hair needs to look perfect, you should consider hiring a wedding hair and makeup Melbourne professional. A professional will be able to give you the look that you want while causing the least amount of damage possible. If you are planning a tight updo, braids, or even doing your own color, it can be very damaging to your hair. A professional will use only quality products that will cause minimal damage to your hair. If your hair is already severely damaged, a professional can cut the dead ends and do a deep conditioning treatment to make your hair look and feel healthier.

#7 UV Rays Are Damaging

UV rays can be damaging to your skin and your hair. When you are going out in the sun, pour a drop of sunscreen in your hands and run them through your hair.

When you know how to keep your hair healthy, it will be shiny and beautiful.
