What do Red Bull, SumoSalad and Colgate-Palmolive have in common apart from being three of the most recognisable brands in Australia? Success, a sense of humour and two savvy young PR guns who have gained the confidence of these and other leading brands with their award winning Public Relations company, Magnum PR.

Twenty-something Co-Directors, Michelle Hampton and Susan Wood, met eight years ago when they both worked as consultants in Sydney. Instantly becoming good mates who shared the same ideals and visions, it wasn’t long before their friendship evolved into a powerful business partnership.

As young publicists with bright minds and fresh ideas, Susan and Michelle felt that the reputation of PR was being let down by agencies and practitioners using dated methods and overcomplicated, expensive strategies that were hardly effective. They saw a gap in the industry for utilising practical and straightforward PR techniques that actually work in achieving maximum results, and so in July 2005, Magnum PR was born.

Starting out with just a few small clients, it wasn’t long before their unique style, vision and methods turned the heads of some of Australia’s leading multinational brands. Now just over three years later, companies hitting their targets with Magnum PR include Red Bull, Colgate-Palmolive, SumoSalad, Australian Geographic, Nad’s Hair Removal and Ali Baba – to name a few.

Whilst their client list is impressive, it’s the genuine, down-to-earth attitude and true dedication that Susan and Michelle bring to their work that gives them their edge in the highly competitive public relations industry. And this is something they pass on to their close-knit team of talented young PR specialists. Carefully selected to ensure the Magnum PR vision continues to grow, all PR gurus at Magnum PR are encouraged to dig deep and aim high, and to share Michelle and Susan’s passion for PR.

Through their dedication, the team at Magnum PR continually surprises their clients with consistently awesome results and an exciting approach to PR which means that they are an irreplaceable part of their clients’ business.

Now recognised as an award winning agency, Magnum PR recently won the coveted award for best PR Campaign in the Special Event category at the 2008 PRIA NSW State Awards for Excellence. With a record number of submissions in the 2008 awards program, Magnum PR’s debut entry for their exceptional PR performance for the event Red Bull Flugtag stood out amongst other outstanding communication campaigns conducted by other leading PR experts.

Magnum PR has also this year won a commended award in PRIA’s National Golden Target Awards along with a Small Business Award.

Although they have achieved so much in just over three short years, the Magnum PR journey has only just begun and for Susan and Michelle, there is still a long way to go to fulfill their vision of reinvigorating and shifting the perception of PR in Australia. But they’re determined to get there, one happy client at a time.

In this recession, it is good to see some brands that are still as powerful as ever.
