Our generation compared to our parent’s is not as funky.
When we were born, human beings had horrifyingly bad fashion taste: they had disproportional large shoulders, they wore such colorful clothes that would have made any blind person resurrect from death and straight men had makeup on.
France was governed by Mitterrand, a former Second World War nazi collaborator, who managed to get elected as a socialist. In the UK, as it is known- not at all- it was “the jolly glorious” years of Thatcher’s reign.
When we became teenagers, we were made to believe, thanks to boy bands, that testosterone owners were sensitive, had great bodies and were able to talk and sing about their feelings. As an adult, we quickly realized that:
- Two out of the five boys in the band were absolutely uninterested in our gender;
- Men do have 6 packs, but there are made of tin;
- If you squeeze men’s balls a tiny bit too hard with your small and delicate hand, they will squeal and run away;
- Finally, when men cry about a break-up, you can hardly remember the dude’s name.
During my parents’ generation, when you were a woman and you came from a good family, you did not have to work. You picked a wealthy and healthy husband to continue living this privileged and idle life. Nowadays, it is compulsory for women to be educated, ambitious, to have great careers and to be paid on average 30% less than men – because it is only fair for females! And on the top of that, we need to be fit, great housewives and mothers.
Furthermore, when we finished going to university, the economy crisis struck hard as if we were back in 1929. Who wants to hire an inexperienced young adult when you can have someone who has been working for several years for the same price?
Even reproduction is not as fun as before. Having sex today is not “happy go lucky” and very environmental friendly. If you forget the rubber: you are good for 4 weeks of stress, for the first time in your life you will be praying for negativity, you will be making multiple phone calls to your friends and to “the traitor”, and you will take an appointment to the doctor’s who will give you the disapproval look which will make you feel like a cheap alcoholic nymphomaniac who is not even able to remember exactly what happened- was it good or not?!
Saying all that, we have been able to see apartheid collapse, Asian countries open their frontiers, like Vietnam and South Korea; we are entirely free to decide how we want to live of lives , we can even be gay and get married; we can be connected with the world in one click.
So why am I complaining? Please read once more my article.
