Garage StorageWinter is the time for hibernation, the time for warm soups, lazy afternoons, and not doing very much at all. Because the home is where the heart is, it tends to reflect exactly how you’re feeling, and in winter that is usually unmotivated, stuffy and picking comfort over fun décor. No wonder getting into the spirit of springtime is a rather slow one. Below are some great tips to get you, and your home, out of that winter slump quicker and into the vibrant energy of spring!

De-Clutter

Everyone does it – gather, store and accumulate. That’s what winter is for; however, it creates a confined, closed in feeling which is definitely not how you want to feel in spring. It’s a season that promotes space, light and freshness – which is exactly how your home should feel. So de-junk! A good way to assess what needs to go is to walk into a space, scan it and take note of all the items that feel out of place, and then get rid of them. Install some storage solutions from http://www.superamart.com.au/ or some simple, spaced out shelving to keep knick-knacks on that you want to keep. This will free up other areas and avoid that ‘cluttered’ feeling.

Go Green

Choosing eco-friendly design elements will not only help with your contribution to the environment, but it will also mean a lasting design for your home, as more and more people are choosing sustainable materials. Natural fabrics like wool and jute for cushion covers and rugs are a great choice, as you don’t have to change too much, and they actually have that natural ‘look’. Vintage cabinet hardware and recycled light fixtures are another easy addition.

Bursts of Sunshine

Pastels are definitely making a resurgence into springtime design. Think mint green, powdery pink, or buttery yellow; and they look great as accents, furniture, or entire walls if you’re up for it! These colours will make it feel like nature has been let loose in your interior!

Outdoor Inspiration

It’s spring after all, so get off that well-worn couch and get outside into the sunshine, you’ll be amazed at the inspiration you get. From the beach to the mountains, or even just out into your backyard (or the neighbours), you will be amazed at the variety of colours, textures and smells that fill your senses. Look to the tree blossoms to choose your colour palette, or bring in a soft beige to match the sand at the beach. Even a large nature wall print will create a real atmosphere of freshness.

Accents with Pop

Metallic accents are a great addition for spring as they create crisp, clean lines. You could incorporate these in a new lamp or large mirror in the entryway. If you’re not into the metal look, white accents are always a safe choice and will immediately lift a room from stale to ultra fresh and vibrant.

Spring is a time for fun and excitement so make sure you have a spring in your step when designing for this season. Spring is also the time for new life, so use this as inspiration to breathe new life into your home!

What is your favourite part about spring? What is it about this season that inspires you? Leave your answers below.
