The State Library of NSW has just released the latest edition of its popular plain-English legal resource magazine, Hot Topics, available now at all NSW public libraries. People living interstate can access a limited number of Hot Topics, including the latest edition, on the web at http://www.liac.sl.nsw.gov.au/hot/
The new edition, Hot Topics 66: Domestic Violence, provides the community and students with the latest information on the law relating to this important issue. It explains what domestic violence is, its prevalence and a victim’s legal options for protection.
According to the magazine, research indicates that domestic violence is usually committed by men against women and children, however, it can occur in all types of domestic relationships.
“Readers will learn that domestic violence is about power and control and includes many different forms of behaviour: intimidation, emotional abuse, physical abuse and psychological manipulation,” said Cathy Hammer, Hot Topics editor.
This issue of Hot Topics includes interesting case studies and provides information on additional services that are available, particularly for women.
Hot Topics is a magazine series on legal issues in NSW, published by the State Library of NSW, Legal Information Access Centre. This edition was updated by the Women’s Legal Services NSW.
Hot Topics provides information for the community and students, and is available as a free resource at every public library in NSW. For more information visit http://www.liac.sl.nsw.gov.au/hot/
