I have had the pleasure of seeing some of the best wild flowers in Western Australia so I’d like to share where you can see them too.

Drive to Dalwallinu (2.5hrs) north east of Perth on the Great Northern Highway and call into the Telecentre. There you can get loads of information on the wild flowers and they have a very informative booklet called “Heritage Self Drive Tours”. Also in Dalwallinu you will find accommodation at the Hotel, Motel and cabins in the Caravan Park, but I advise you to book.

If you hit Dalwallinu around lunch time, I recommend going to Jenny’s Bakery located in the main street. This bakery is always busy and after tasting some of their delights, you will know why. Now where do you find these little beauties?

When you leave Dalwallinu, continue on to Wubin (20k). When you reach Wubin, drive through the town and turn right past the last service station on the right hand side. You are now heading towards Paynes Find on the Great Northern Highway.

If it is the Reef Flower you are chasing then keep your eyes out for the sign that say’s ‘Kalannie – Goodlands Road’ (about 60k from Wubin). A few kilometres down this road you can see the amazing Reef Flower on the edges of the road.

If its the carpet of paper daisies in pinks/whites/yellows/purples your looking for, then they are in abundance along the Great Northern Highway just over the hill past the ’40k to Paynes Find’ sign. Look out for them on either side of the road.

Another fabulous spot for the paper daisies and a nice place to picnic is approximately 25k up the Warradah Station road, which is a turn off located on the left hand side coming off the Great Northern Highway, a couple of kilometres past the Ninghan Station turn off. You will see a big lake which is full of water at the moment and there is a well worn track leading into it, and there you will find more of these beautiful flowers.
