When Lucinda Smedley entered the 2008 ‘Miss Earth’ pageant, she was serious about making a difference. Several months later while securing herself a spot in the Australian finals held in September, she launched the inaugural environmental fashion fundraiser to raise money and awareness of the World Wildlife Fund.
“‘Miss Earth’ is so much more than just a beauty pageant”, says Lucinda, a current naturopathy student at the Australian College of Natural Medicine.
“It’s easy for people to say they are committed to a healthy green lifestyle but not everyone actively works at it. ‘Miss Earth’ contestants not only have to be committed to eco friendly living, they also have to demonstrate a willingness to make a difference in the world promoting environmentally friendly living. It is about demonstrating and promoting ways that we can all care for the earth.”
The environmental fashion show fundraiser takes place on Wednesday 6th August 2008 commencing at 7.30pm. It will be held in the heart of Melbourne at 322 Little Collins Street with five aspiring eco friendly fashion designers coming together to create a unique runway show proving that environmentally friendly fashion is the future.
During the evening, there will be a mixture of background and live music, free interactive make up workshops, and a silent auction with many interesting gifts on offer. Tickets are still available from Sticky Tickets.
The Miss Earth finals takes place in Sydney on September 27th. The winner will represent Australia in the Philippines.
