Happy young family having fun running on beach at sunsetHow to Get Affordable Health Insurance that’s Right for You! Young adults these days are constantly busy, and always on the go. There are so many things to keep your mind occupied in this day and age, that it’s no wonder youngsters are barely giving health insurance a second thought. When you’re young, fit, and feeling fantastic what could you possibly have to worry about? You have your whole life ahead of you!

But we think that’s actually the reason why you should take a step back and consider your current lifestyle. Think about where you want to be in the near future. Here are three big reasons the young and the restless should start thinking about getting health cover:

Healthy Lifestyle:

When you’re young, healthy & fit of course you don’t consider things such as health insurance. This is the sort of life problem you palm off on to future you!

One of the biggest mistakes young individuals make is neglecting to consider the possibility of injury and unforeseeable health concerns when they’re young. Sporting and exercise injuries are one of the big ones! It’s fantastic to see the mindset of so many young Australians moving towards that of regular exercise and eating well, but with that increased exercise comes never before seen health concerns.

Suddenly you’re learning what the difference is between physio, chiro, osteo, and every other ‘o’ in the medical dictionary! One thing they all have in common however is the price tag! A good health fund will help you to keep up your active lifestyle, but provide you with the peace of mind in case anything were to happen in the future.

Starting A Family:

Are you thinking about starting a family soon? Many people don’t consider the incredible costs of having a child and that first Obstetrician bill can knock the wind right out of you! You may think that having your first child could still be a few years off but keep in mind that you practically always need to have health insurance for a minimum of 12 months before you are covered for pregnancy so it’s a good idea to start looking sooner rather than later.

Other things you should keep in mind are:

Perhaps you already have health insurance, but it may not cover pregnancy and birth related services, so make sure before trying to start a family.

When doing your research into health cover you should make sure your new addition to the family will be covered under your health insurance from the word go! Make sure they are fully covered from the moment they are born.

Check insurances to ensure you’re covered for IVF & other fertility treatments.

Saving Up For Those Big Moments:

Being young doesn’t mean you can’t have those exotic trips, romantic dinners, new car, or even a property! You just need to know where you can save some cash here and there. Tax is one of those areas you can potentially save. For an average individual earning $90,000 that is not covered by private health insurance, the government will charge you a whole 1% extra in tax each year for the Medicare Levy Surcharge. It is in fact cheaper to invest in certain basic health covers!

This tax is also applicable to travellers under a 485 or 457 visa application. Frank Health Insurance has constructed their own special Overseas Visitor Health Cover with these individuals in mind to make it quick and easy to receive a compliance letter and avoid this tax.

So don’t hold off until you’re old and grey to start thinking about health insurance. It’s important to think about it now when you have your whole life ahead of you! Just keep these few simple tips in mind:

  • Make sure to do your research and go with a trustworthy health insurance company.
  • Always ask friends and family for their opinions, because they have first-hand experience!
  • Consider what your future holds. Is it traveling? Starting a family? Joining a soccer team? Or even looking to buy your first home? There is the perfect health cover to matches your life journey and ensure that you’re always going to be covered for life’s little surprises.
