Due to popular demand, Colgate-Palmolive has decided to revive one of the most successful ad campaigns ever run on Australian commercial TV, five years after it disappeared from our television screens.

Remember this:

Oh help! They’re here too soon for dinner/The boss & his wife Linda/an overdressed hyena/it ruined my demeanor/’Cause the bathroom was still dirty/thanks to Derek, Dave & Bertie/Bathroom Spray n’ Wipe/will make it really clean/Spray n’ Wipe’s the one/To cut through tough soap scum/The bathroom couldn’t be cleaner/Outfoxed that old hyena/So thank you, Spray n’ Wipe! Twenty-two years after she starred in the first TV commercial in 1988, Paula Duncan (pictured) will reprise her role as the housewife and mother who runs around the house frantically wiping every surface with Ajax Spray n’ Wipe. Paula will be starring in a brand new TV ad in which she plays the same character we all remember from the original ad campaign.

When asked by Woman’s Day (29 July 2008) what she would be most remembered for, Paula Duncan said, “the young people remember me as the mad lady in the Spray ‘n’ Wipe ad. Spray ‘n’ Wipe never leaves me. The public love it because it’s funny.”

Look out for the new Spray n’ Wipe ad on Australia television from March 2010.

In the meantime, take a trip down memory lane by viewing the first Spray n’ Wipe ad produced for Australian audiences in 1988. It features a real-estate agent who sparked a panic in the household to clean up before the arrival of a prospective buyer. The TV commercial was an instant hit with audiences in Australia and New Zealand. Over the years the catchy jingle was adapted according to different story lines, all starring the same TV family.
