Rating: ★★★★☆

When you think of a private investigator, you may picture a sweaty, overweight, balding man scouring the streets of a grimy Capital City with an instamatic, snapping telltale evidence in the twisted bedsheets of seedy motels.

Think again. While Infidelity is certainly a book that will explode a myth or two, its author – Julia Hartley Moore – also explodes a few myths. This immaculately groomed, hard-working, entrepreneurial woman is just about as far from the stereotypical private investigator as you can get.

In 1996, Julia founded Arbeth & Co Ltd, a boutique investigations agency that works internationally and throughout New Zealand & Australia in the fields of private, family court, criminal and commercial investigations. For the past fourteen years, Julia has essentially become the face of private investigation in New Zealand and is now a popular motivational speaker in New Zealand and abroad.

With no formal police background, Julia caused a major stir  when she first entered the industry, becoming the first woman to own a PI company in New Zealand, in an industry totally dominated by male ex-police officers. She also came to the public’s attention as the star of a reality series based on private investigators – and in this brand new addition of her book – Infidelity – Exploding the Myths – Julia continues her campaign to get to the truth.

In Infidelity, Julia readily admits she is not a psychologist nor a professor. She doesn’t deal in ‘theories’, she deals in reality. In cold hard facts.

‘What I know about infidelity I’ve learned at the coal face of betrayal,’ says the author, ‘I see the shattered lives, the broken families, the grief that infidelity leaves in its wake.’

Opening up and examining infidelity in a way only a PI knows how, Julia’s book covers an impressive catalogue of issues relating to this common and often life-altering misdimeanour. Beginning with Dispelling the Myths of Infidelity – for example, ‘the other woman must be prettier than me’ – the author takes readers on a journey that’s sure to bring empowerment and understanding to anyone suffering adultery.

Featuring signs of betrayal, notes on human nature, how women can be their own worst enemies, how to spot a cheat, case studies, key summary points and vital information on relationsip breakdown and the law, this is a very eye-opening insight into a clandestine issue that affects most of us at some time in our lives. Interestingly, there’s even a chapter dedicated to how to have the perfect affair.

Whether you’re a victim or a perpretator, reading Infidelity is like embarking on your own PI journey into an understanding that could change your life. Just avoid the seedy motels, will you?
